Hundreds of runners and walkers participate in annual Brittany McCarthy Memorial 5K Run…Raising over $25,000 for Brain Aneurysm Research

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A field of more than 300 runners and walkers gathered this past Saturday at Wolfe’s Pond Park to participate in the annual Brittany McCarthy Memorial 5K Run & Walk To Save Lives.

The event honors the memory of Brittany McCarthy who tragically died of a brain aneurysm in 2021 at the age of 21.

This event could never take place without my husband Lenny and Brittany’s twin sister Ashley and The Bee Foundation, Erin, Christine, Laura and Lauren and all the donations that come from friends, family and even people we don’t know, especially in the local community,” Brittany’s mother, Patricia McCarthy-Hillers said.

“Every dollar that is donated goes towards a research grant in Brittany’s honor each year to a doctor to find a way to detect aneurysms before they rupture.”

An organ donor, Brittany McCarthy’s organs have helped save three lives and also restored eyesight to a recipient as well.

“We are so grateful to everyone.”

In the 5K, Dominic Palermo won in a time of 19 minutes, 27 seconds. Finishing in second was Burim Perasovic (20:21) while Timothy Wassif finished third (21:21).
