Vanessa Kelly: Surviving An Aneurysm

In September of 2020, I was sick with covid when the worst headache of my life hit.

I screamed to my husband that I needed help after I felt a pop behind my right eye and the room went pitch black.

Two weeks later I woke up in the ICU of Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle, WA. Soon I learned I had a coiling/stent surgery since I survived a SAH weeks earlier. I have no memory of the time between feeling the pop behind my right eye and waking up in the hospital. I was airlifted there after the SAH was identified with a CT Scan at the local hospital which has no neurosurgeons.

It’s been three years and it still feels like all of this happened just yesterday.

I live my life fully and in the moment as I am very aware of how lucky I was to live through this horrible medical trauma.

I like to paint to express my feelings and create videos on my YouTube channel Brave Healing Warrior to discuss various aspects of surviving what typically kills. I find it therapeutic to know other survivors and participate in support groups as none of us are truly alone in the ongoing challenges one faces after facing a near death experience.

Each day is truly a gift and I hope I can help others with my survival story.
