On Saturday, October 12th, runners, walkers, and supporters gathered in Cary, North Carolina for the annual Ellie Helton Memorial Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run. This special event honors the memory of Ellie Helton, a vibrant 14-year-old whose life was tragically cut short by a brain aneurysm. Since 2015, the Helton family has dedicated themselves to raising awareness and critical funds for brain aneurysm prevention in Ellie’s name, and this year’s event was nothing short of inspiring.Â
The morning kicked off with a scenic 5K route through one of Cary’s most beautiful parks, where participants enjoyed a brisk walk or run in honor of Ellie’s legacy. Families, friends, and brain aneurysm advocates all came together with a shared goal: to celebrate Ellie’s spirit while raising funds to help others. In addition to local residents and friends, the race attracted Colorado based family members and a young woman from Charlotte who recently lost her mother to an aneurysm and was completing her first 5K. Whether walking or running, each participant embodied the perseverance and love for life that Ellie radiated during her 14 years.
October 12th, marked the 9th and final raise in honor of Ellie and celebrated over $300K raised for brain aneurysm research and awareness over those 9 years due to the loving support of family, friends and local businesses. These funds are vital for brain aneurysm research, prevention, and advocacy efforts, which continue to make a difference in the lives of countless individuals.
Participants were treated to a commemorative Live Like Ellie medal and t-shirt, TBF swag bag, and the warm camaraderie and sense of shared purpose filled the day with hope and positivity. Ellie’s love for superheroes, the color pink, and her joyful spirit were felt throughout the event. Her legacy encourages everyone to embrace life, be themselves, and carry her memory with love.
A huge thank you to all who participated, donated, and supported this event. Together, we are making strides toward brain aneurysm prevention, helping to save lives, and ensuring Ellie’s light continues to shine.
