Kilometers for Kiki 5K Fun Run/Walk in the Harbor County News

Harbor County News posted on September 10, 2025 featuring Kilometers for Kiki 5K – see post here.

NEW BUFFALO — The first Kilometers for Kiki 5K Fun Run/Walk will take place in New Buffalo on Saturday, Sept. 13, beginning at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 718 W Buffalo St.

The event is being held in memory of Katelyn “Kiki” Kelly, who passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 18, 2024, at the age of 34 from a brain aneurysm.

Katelyn was a beloved daughter, sister, friend and neighbor whose kindness, spirit, and generosity touched countless lives in the Michiana area. She was survived by her parents, Susan and David Kelly; sister, Marisa Kelly; grandmother, Caron Karner; boyfriend, Cameron Peterson; Godparents, Sharon Fredrickson and David Seastrom; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and three special dogs in her life that she adored, Helly, Murphy, and Cleveland.

Check in for the Kilometers for Kiki 5K Fun Run/Walk is 10 a.m. (Eastern Time) Sept. 13, with the run/walk starting at 11 a.m. All are welcome — including strollers and leashed dogs (to register, sponsor, donate or volunteer go to: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/2025katelynkellymemorial/).

The route concludes at Casey’s Bar and Grill, where Kiki worked. A post-race celebration is planned at Casey’s with live music, food, raffles, and swag. All proceeds will go to brain aneurysm research.

Organized by Kiki’s aunt, Sharon Fredrickson, in partnership with The Bee Foundation, the event supports brain aneurysm research and advocacy. Brain aneurysms affect 1 in 50 people and often go undetected until it’s too late.

“This is about turning our grief into purpose,” said Fredrickson. “We want to remember Kiki and help save lives in her honor.”
